Today is all about ENCOURAGEMENT.
We all at some point and time need encouragement. With negativity all around one, it is sometimes hard to find the positive in between all of the negatives. Trust me there is something positive in every situation. Often we focus too much on the negative that we cannot see the positive, and it is sitting right under our noses.
A way to look at the positive is to let go of past hurts and pains. Leave them in the past where they belong. Some of us cannot get past an issue we have with either ourselves or someone else that we feel has done us wrong in some way. Whether it is a spouse, boyfriend, girlfriend, etc. stop pressing the rewind button of misery and press forward into a better and brighter future. Remember “trouble does not last always.”
There is a positive in encouraging someone else. So if, you cannot find anything else in your life to be positive about, encourage someone else and see the positive smile or thank you from that person. Even if, the person does not acknowledge the difference you have made in his or her life, take heart in knowing that you DID make a difference…you put a positive vibe in the atmosphere.

So many things have been happening in my life of late that I was starting to let negativity take over. This morning I sat by my window, after the big storm of course, J and meditated on all of the good that has been happening in my life.
So, out with the old way of thinking and in with the new!

Hello All,

Makeover Day 08


Makeover Day 08

Welcome to day eight of my makeover from the inside out. I have not been posting because of storms and power outage. Add that along with my niece being in terrible car accident it’s been a bit overwhelming. However, through it all I have kept up most of my routine. Instead of backtracking to previous days I will post at the end of the week, Saturday, a recap of what I’ve done for the week, and if I have in fact lost any pounds J. Remember my task is not just to lose weight but to rejuvenate my mind as well as my body.

This morning I just sat in meditation—relieving my mind of all of junk that I absorbed yesterday, and opening my mind to new and better things today. One can accomplish much with a clear mind.

My morning prayer was for wisdom, knowledge, and understanding.

Breakfast consisted of a Protein shake. I wasn’t hungry this morning but the body need something to burn off. I can burn fat while gaining muscle and tone.

With that in mind the thought of the day is:

Makeover Day 05


THE POWER OF POSITIVE THINKING

Okay because of a really bad storm I’ve had no power since yesterday. We got some back last night only to lose it again up until an hour ago.

Report of the week: By only doing the little things and meditating on positive things this week I have lost a total of 2 lbs. Go me!! Every little bit counts.

The weight loss is not what has me so excited. During this week because I decided to change my way of thinking and do things differently, my blood pressure has been at an all-time low. Yessssssss! It’s not where it should be but it’s lower than what it has been in a long time. I am very happy J!

Keep on going, and the chances are that you will stumble on something, perhaps when you are least expecting it. I never heard of anyone ever stumbling on something sitting down.  ~Charles F. Kettering

Makeover Day 04


IT’S FRIDAY! Day 4 of my quest for a makeover from the inside out.

Sorry people L Last night I was out.  I slept past dinner—shame on me (grin).

This morning I am having a bowl of oatmeal, fruit, and decaf-coffee.

I will be out all day getting my hair braided. Oh joy…NOT. However while sitting in the chair I have decided that I will do those little butt squeezes, lol. You know the one where you squeeze your butt cheeks in-and-out.  A few sets of those should be good along with leg lifts (tighten the butt muscles and abs). Yay!

Tomorrow will wrap up this week. I know it will only be day 05 of posting, however, I started this makeover last Saturday.

Today I want to focus on VISUALIZATION. If you can see it you can achieve it.

Can you see yourself living a healthy, happier, and more fulfilled life? I can.

Don’t be discouraged. People getting on your nerves…learn to press the ignore button.

Makeover Day Three


Today I am going to talk a little about Discipline.

A disciplined life leads to a happy more fulfilled life. Discipline has a lot to do with the mind...out thought process.

I started this 90 day makeover in order to discipline myself in leading a better life and to feel good about myself from the inside out. Have you ever found yourself saying “I am going to do this or that” and almost never do it at the specific time or day that you wished? I have. Lately it had started to be a daily occurrence in my life. And let me tell you I was not pleased with what I was seeing. I was not a happy camper. No. Not at all. So I decided to make a change.

This makeover was my first step. The next step is this: Learning to manage my time and Priorities. Society has taught us that everything has to be rushed…well it doesn’t. Learning to pace oneself is a great start to learning self-control (Discipline).

I made a list of everything that I have planned for the day. Start with the most important to the least important. The most important is my number priority. Remember you can have many important things that have to be done within the day. However, there can only be one priority. Why? Although one can multitask one can only complete one thing at a time effectively.  Example: You have two meetings scheduled for the day and for some reason they were scheduled at the same time. Well one cannot be in two places at once. One of those meeting has to come second…whether it’s 10 minutes later or 20 minutes later.  Things that can be delegated…delegate, and then move to the next, and so on.

Exercise this morning: Got up at 5 a.m. and with my son went to the track and walked for 40 minutes.

My breakfast today is eggs, turkey bacon, wheat toast, and melon. I rarely eat bacon. I had a taste for it this morning so I am making it. Nope, I am not being bad. For lunch it will be tuna, salad, and piece of fruit. I will munch on healthy snacks during the day. Not sure about dinner yet.

Update Day Two


I hope everyone had a FANTABULOUS day!!!

It was so HOT outside today that I just wanted to stay in the house under the air conditioning—seriously, over 90 degrees outside today. After I came home from the doctor with Dad, I went to physical therapy (I personally don’t consider PT exercise).

This is what I did at home:

Did laundry. Up and down the stairs and lifting loads of clothes is exercise. I also did a few laps up and down on my own.

If you have stairs, and you are healthy enough to go up and down them…use them as a form of exercise. Also did 50 arm lifts. I wasn’t feeling that great today so I didn’t push it.

I did get in some writing today. Yay! I have been clearing my mind and doing a little writing at a time. I have even gone over a few works in process and fixed things as well as add on.

I listed my breakfast and lunch in my earlier post. For dinner I had baked salmon with lemon and garlic, brown rice, broccoli, and bottled water. 

Salmon can be expensive…use whatever fish or meat you like. Remember we are doing a makeover inside out the inexpensive way, Lol. I am confident we can do it.

Rejuvenating the mind is a great start to a healthy and prosperous life.

I started the day off with meditating on a scripture…I will end the day the same. I have one of those miniature water gardens that you can put on your desk or dresser or wherever and listen to the water trickle down…ahhh so relaxing.

Makeover Day Two

With this in mind, get past the worries of life by launching out into the deep and casting your net to a better you.

This is the decision that I have made. Today my focus is on meditation along with my routinely exercise. I probably won’t be able to get to the track today. However, I have already mapped out my first two meals of the day.
Breakfast: A mini wheat bagel with vegetable cream cheese, a large decaf coffee, and a slice of melon.

Lunch: Since I will be out with my dad for his chemo treatment I have decided to bring a bag lunch. I never know what I’m going to be doing when I’m with the parents. So on the menu is a peanut butter and honey sandwich. Try to use honey instead of jelly…less fattening, a banana, apple, Kashi crunch, and bottled water.  I will probably put some celery and carrot stick in a small Ziploc bag just in case.

 Meditation is good for the soul, so while I wait on my dad I will meditate on this scripture by reading it throughout the day. In its simple form meditation is just the art of focusing one’s mind on a specific thought—reflective thinking.

Update Day One


Today was a great day! I achieved a great deal today. Got up early, went for my morning walk around the track, and then came back home and did a half an hour of exercise.

My exercise consisted of leg lifts—five sets of 20.

Arm lifts—three sets of 50.

Squat thrusts: five sets of 20.

My meals today were in the morning: Protein shake. Just didn’t feel like eating real food.

Snack: I munched on Kashi Go Lean Crunch! Naturally Sweetened Multigrain Cluster Cereal. You can eat this as a meal (cereal) or as a snack. I LOVE snacks, that’s my problem (chips, cookies, cakes). Yikes! I am not giving up snacks totally...I am just learning to control my intake by replacing the bad with some good.

Lunch consisted of Apple and Almond grilled Chicken Salad from Wendy’s (I was on the road at lunch time) with a bottle of water.

Dinner: I still wasn’t hungry at dinner but I did eat a cup of spaghetti and dessert was a few sweet potato fries. Probably not the healthiest thing to eat but it did the trick.

I do not eat after 7 p.m. If I get hungry later tonight (doubt that I will) I will munch on some more Kashi or a piece of fruit.

I won’t mention how much water I drank because I drink water all throughout the day in the spring and summer. It is just too hot to drink fruit drinks or soda for me.

**NOTE:

A lot of people will tell you to go to the gym…well some of us just do not have the time to make it to the gym. What I have been doing to substitute going to the gym is very inexpensive.

For hand weights I use either two cans of any kind of can good that’s in the house…I don’t like can foods so I use bottled water as my weights. I just recycle the bottles that I have during the week and fill them up with tap water and use them as weights. Just as good as those 2 and 3 lbs. weights.

If you can’t run around your block or on a track, just clear a space and run in place for about 10, 15 or 20 minutes. I usually do five sets of 100. Do what you can do though and work your way up to whatever you want. The goal is to challenge yourself.

My number one goal is to work towards a healthier me. It has to become a lifestyle.

Makeover from the inside out: Day One


A 90 day journey to a healthier me on the inside out.

Most young women and women are constantly in a battle to compete with society’s norms of what the “perfect” woman/girl should look like. Well, I am doing this to concentrate on a healthier me. This is NOT a diet, rather a journey to feeling good and making the way I eat and think a way of life…lifestyle changes.

Each day I will start out with a scripture or a quote of inspiration to get started, and then I will post daily throughout on what I did to rejuvenate my mind and body.

I will LOVE for you to join me on my journey to a healthier me. If anyone has anything to add each day, just chime in and post a comment. My mornings start early so here we go. *Pause* I actually started this on Saturday, and then it came to me to post my daily adventure into healthiness for others to see.

What we as a people need to understand is that we come in all different shapes, sizes, and textures. Yes, I said textures. Last year, I read a book by Nicole Givens-Kurtz, and I believe the name of the book was A Complete Woman. This book dealt with women and the different personalities as well as issues that each had. A Great book. A must read (IMO).

Textures as in personalities:

Some are what I would refer to as “Wool”. Why? Wool is heavy, strong, and keeps you warm in the winter months. Now some people are allergic to wool, but that’s okay it doesn’t mean that wool is not liked it just mean that certain people can’t tolerate it in some forms. But notice there is still a need for wool. A strong personality.

Cotton: Now everybody in the World uses something or has something with cotton in it. I believe cotton is the most used fabric around the world, Lol. Why? It’s soft and fluffy…good to the touch. And you know what it’s pretty sturdy. However, you do have some cotton the shrinks—can’t stand-up under the pressure. It appears strong, but it too has its limits.

Linen: I love linen, but you know what. Linen wrinkles always. Once you put it on after a few minutes it looks as if it needs another round with the iron (grin). Still lovely…just need a few minor adjustments along the way. The same with people—might have a few flaws, but lovely still the same.

Now we have “Silk”: Silk…soft to the touch—has to be treated gently. Dry clean only or hand washed. Some people need a tender/gentle touch or approach. Handle silk with care.

So you see people. We all come in different shapes, sizes and personalities…just need handling a little differently that’s all. With materials, there’s a warning label or care label attached to the material instructing on how to care for that material. Most of time if you do not follow the instructions careful something is going to go awry with the material. It’s same with people. Don’t just judge…if you can learn the person and treat them accordingly.

Okaaaay let’s start this train ride to a healthier me/you. Will join me?
